Title: PhD Educator Assistant Director of Education
Department: Surgery, GME
Reports To: Surgery Program Director & Chairman of Surgery
The University at Buffalo Surgical Residency Program has 50+ residents. The School of
Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a PhD Educator to join the leadership team of
Graduate Medical Education. This person will work closely with the Surgery Program Director
and Associate Program Directors to initiate, develop, and maintain a high level of education and
quality training for our future surgeons. In the fall of 2017, the University opened a new medical
school campus downtown that will provide unparalleled opportunities for collaboration in all
levels of simulation from inanimate to human gift.
Educator: The PhD Educator will lead the implementation of innovative education programs and
systems to fulfill ACGME accreditation requirements. This person will contribute knowledge of
education theory to work collaboratively with surgeon educators and implement novel resident
assessments and initiatives. This will stimulate educational innovations and support interprofessional
Administrator: The PhD Educator will advise program evaluation committees and Program
Directors on design and implementation of data-driven program evaluation as well as
development of program-improvement strategies.
Researcher: The PhD Educator will lead the development and implementation of evaluation and
research strategies to assure continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance. This
person will also contribute to educational research at all levels of surgical training and will work
in collaboration with faculty on scholarly projects in Graduate Medical Education (GME) and
other vital School of Medicine programs. Support to develop peer-reviewed funding will be
made available by the department of surgery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be appointed to the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine as
either Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on level of experience. The term of
appointment will renewable yearly after a satisfactory review. Tenure tract options can be made
available for exceptional candidates.

Position Summary: The billing specialist is responsible for accurately entering physician charges in the CGM billing system. He/she will post payments to patient accounts, conduct follow up activities, assist patients with questions, and perform other related business tasks as assigned.
