Carroll M. Harmon, MD
Carroll M. Harmon, MD PhD is the John E. Fisher Professor of Surgery and the Division Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Harmon is also the Program Director of the Pediatric Surgery Fellowship Program. He is the Surgeon in Chief and Medical Director of Pediatric and Thoracic General Surgery at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital and Chief of Surgery for Kaleida Health. He is also Director of the Pediatric Surgery Research Laboratory.
Dr. Harmon’s research interests include pediatric obesity, both clinical as well as at a basic science. This includes long-term outcomes in adolescent bariatric surgery. He also has a career long commitment to promoting the development and application of advanced neonatal and pediatric minimally invasive endosurgery.
Dr. Harmon is a past president of the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group and a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Pediatrics, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, Central Surgical Association, The Obesity Society, Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, and Children’s Hospital Association Surgeon-in-Chief Forum.
Dr. Harmon received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Alabama. Medical and Philosophy doctorates and training in General Surgery from Vanderbilt University. He is board certified in adult and pediatric general and thoracic surgery.
